Lancaster Shakespeare Theatre (LST) in Lancaster, PA seeks a visionary leader to join a team of talented and dedicated staff, artists, and board members in the role of Executive Director (ED).

ANNUAL PAY: $12,000

Lancaster Shakespeare Theatre (LST) offers thought-provoking theatre, promoting a more
reflective and inclusive community. While Shakespeare is at the core of what LST does, the theatre also produces notable plays by other authors that portray the universal human experience through the immediacy of live performance. LST prioritizes educational programs for both children and adults.
OVERALL NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:
The Executive Director serves as the senior leader responsible for the administrative, financial, operational, and development strategies of the Lancaster Shakespeare Theatre. The ED is responsible for driving strategic planning, fundraising, donor relations, budgetary oversight, and board relations to ensure the organization’s fiscal health and mission fulfillment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead with a strong vision that respects the works of Shakespeare, empowers students to learn from those works, and ensures the longevity of LST by further engaging with the Lancaster theatre community.
- Assume a leadership role in strategic planning and foster a positive and mission forward culture, alongside the board.
- Cultivate new and existing relationships with Lancaster’s arts and cultural leaders.
- Collaborate with the board to support the theatre’s financial goals through fundraising.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization to press, donors, patrons, and artists.
- Participate as an ex-officio voting member of the Board of Directors and attend board and committee meetings.
- Report to the Board of Directors regularly on the company’s activities, progress, and challenges.
- Advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and access goals in organizational and production staffing, policies, procedures, and practices.
- Along with the LST Treasurer, develop and manage annual operating budgets, monitor cash flow, and handle risk management.
Artistic Administration
- Set dates for events and secure or oversee securing venues (camp, productions, rehearsals, workshops, etc.)
- Maintain liaisons with venues and their directors/boards
- Hire directors.
- Oversee directors’ hiring of actors, technicians, designers, choreographers, and musicians
- Attend and provide feedback on key components of the production process, including but not limited to rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and previews of shows.
- Appoint someone to lead the Shakespeers program. Be sure that judges & workshop leaders are lined up and that needed materials are obtained.
