Bring on a new round of fireworks!!! Introducing Lancaster Shakespeare Theatre’s new Executive Artistic Director, Luke Reed:
Most recently part of Fulton Theatre’s current season as an understudy in Driving Miss Daisy and Every Brilliant Thing, Luke has extensive directing, teaching and acting credentials. Luke began his career at the famed Shakespeare & Company in the Berkshires, where he performed the title role in Hamlet, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet and Lysander in A Midsummer’s Night Dream, as well as being a teaching artist in the company’s internationally acclaimed education department. “It was there,” says Reed, “that I not only fell in love with William Shakespeare’s enduring body of work, but where I also developed a bone-deep ethic and aesthetic approach to theatre and theatrical education as a whole.”
Professionally, Luke has directed multiple regional productions including The Sound of Music and The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley TYA at Totem Pole Playhouse in Fayetteville, PA, where he was Associate Director for the just-ended production of Come From Away. In his hometown of Shippensburg, PA, he produced and directed Shakespeare’s Richard III with the Shippensburg Theater Collective and led the Shippensburg Area Senior High School’s Drama Club for over 6 years and 16 productions. One of his favorite aspects of theatre is working with young people. For two years he was Director of Education at Totem Pole and is currently leading a summer theatre camp there.
Luke will be joining LST in the fall when he will relocate to Lancaster County from Shippensburg. While he is new to the EAD role, he is well prepared and comes to LST with considerable energy and enthusiasm. “The Lancaster area theatre scene is unbelievably special. It’s teeming with rich talent and diverse artistry. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it as LST’s new EAD, a job that feels tailor-made for me and my career.”
“We are excited for Luke to take the reins and lead us into the next chapter,” President of the LST Board Justine Dennis McPhee said. “His experience, creativity, and energy will help Lancaster Shakespeare Theatre expand its youth programs, deepen its connection with the community, and inspire artistic excellence both on and off the stage.”
Luke replaces Jeremiah Miller, who is now performing at Sight and Sound. Miller’s three-year tenure was a time of growth for LST. The theatre expanded to four productions a year, including its first ever non-Shakespeare offerings.
Lancaster Shakespeare Theatre (LST) offers thought-provoking theatre, promoting a more reflective and inclusive community. While Shakespeare is at the core of what LST does, the theatre also produces notable plays by other authors that portray the universal human experience through the immediacy of live performance. LST prioritizes educational programs for both children and adults.
